Wall of Board Games

A Burmese Carrom fan abroad reached out to us recently seeking rules clarification & game pieces. Researching for his query makes us feel nostalgic for our childhood memories of playing it with our cousins & neighbor kids. So here it is. The game is called ဇယ်ခုံ /ze khoun/ or လက်တောက်ခုံ /lat tout khoun/ in Burmese. This is a dexterity game of skill. Depending on the people who introduced the game, it could be played in many ways. Carrom is just like a deck of cards. The game is limited only by your imagination. We also played with many house rules during our childhood. Burmese Carrom includes a square wooden board, 19 numbered circular pieces (ဇယ် ‘ze’ / carrom) in 3 different colors (eg. 1-9 yellows, 10-18 blues & 19 whites) & a bigger circular piece (ဒိုး ‘doe’ / striker). It’s usually played by 2 to 4 players or solo. Shooting rules are basically the same as Carrom & you score by striking the pieces into one of the four pockets. When you score, you get another turn. Following are the 3 most common ways to play this game. • Collect as many pieces as you could (“19” being the last one to score). Each piece you collect is worth 1 point & “19”, 2. Highest scoring player wins. If you accidentally score “19” before the others, both “19” & one of your collected pieces are placed back to the center. *Variant: All 1 to 19 pieces must be scored only in order. Otherwise, it must be put back in the center. • Each player/team draws a random number between 1-19 & be the 1st player/team that scores all drawn number/s. (When other players find out which number you are chasing, they might try to block you.) If you score any other piece, place it back in the center. *Variant: More than 1 piece may be drawn for a longer game. • Each team (2vs2 or 1vs1) tries to score all pieces of their color (1-9 yellows or 10-18 blues). Once all 9 pieces of your team color are scored, go for “19”. The team that scores “19” first wins. Note: If you’d like to increase the difficulty of the game, here’s a variant. To score, the striker or the carrom piece must bounce at least 1 border before entering one of the pockets. Otherwise, it must be put back in the center. Designer: Bruno Cathala Average Rating: 7.8 No. of Players: 2-4 (Best: 2) Duration: 40-80 min Complexity: 2.85/5 တစ်ထောင့်တစ်ညပုံပြင်တွေထဲက Naqala တိုင်းပြည်ကို သွားလည်ကြရအောင်။ Sultan ဘုရင်ကြီး နတ်ရွာစံသွားတဲ့အခါ လူမျိုးစုကြီး ၅ စု အပါအ၀င် တိုင်းပြည်ကို အုပ်ချုပ်ဖို့ အိမ်ရှေ့မင်းသားလည်းမရှိဘဲ အခက်အခဲဖြစ်နေပါပြီ။ တဘောင်ထဲကအတိုင်းဆိုရင် ထီးနန်းနဲ့ထိုက်တန်တဲ့ တိုင်းတစ်ပါးက လူတစ်ယောက် ပေါ်လာတော့မယ်။ သင်က ဒီတဘောင်ထဲက လူတစ်ယောက်များဖြစ်နေမှာလား။ ၅x၆ မြေကွက် ၃၀ ပေါ်မှာ လူမျိုးစု ၅ စုကို နေရာတွေရွှေ့ပြီး အမှတ်တွေကို စုရမယ်။ ကိုယ့်အလှည့်မှာ နေရာတစ်ကွက်ပေါ်က လူမျိုးစုတွေကိုအကုန်ယူ နီးစပ်ရာမြေကွက်တွေကို တစ်ကောင်စီချသွား။ နောက်ဆုံးကျန်တဲ့ တစ်ကောင်က နောက်ဆုံးရွှေ့တဲ့ အကွက်ပေါ်မှာရှိတဲ့ လူမျိုးစုတစ်ခုခုနဲ့ အရောင်တူရင်ရွှေ့လို့ရတယ်။ ပြီးရင် လူမျိုးစု Action လုပ်။ နောက်တစ်ခုက မြေကွက် Action ကိုလုပ်လို့ရရင်လုပ်။ အဆုံးသတ်မြေကွက်က လူမျိုးစု မရှိတဲ့ မြေကွက်ဖြစ်သွားပြီဆို အဲ့မြေကွက်မှာ ကိုယ့်အရောင်ကုလားအုပ်ကိုချ။ Elders (အဖြူ) တွေက တန်ခိုးရှင် (Djinns) ကပ်တွေ၀ယ်ဖို့ လိုအပ်တယ်။ မတူညီတဲ့ တန်ခိုးရှင်တွေက ထူးခြားတဲ့ အကျိုးတွေရအောင် ဖန်တီးပေးနိုင်တယ်။ Builders (အပြာ) တွေက အပြာရောင်မြေကွက်တွေအတိုင်းဆနဲ့ အမှတ်တန်းရတယ်ဆိုတော့ မဆိုးဘူး။ ကုန်ပစ္စည်းတွေစုဖို့ကျတော့ Merchants (အစိမ်း) လိုအပ်တယ်။ မတူတဲ့ ကုန်ပစ္စည်းအတွဲတိုင်းအတွက် အမှတ်ရတယ်။ Viziers (အ၀ါ) ကတော့ ပွဲပြီးတဲ့အချိန်မှာ များများစုရင်စုထားနိုင်သလောက် အမှတ်တွေရမယ်။ Assassins (အနီ) ကတော့ ပြိုင်ဘက်လက်ထဲ ရောက်သွားတဲ့ လူမျိုးစုအကောင်(အဖြူ၊ အ၀ါ) ကို သတ်ဖို့ပဲဖြစ်ဖြစ် နားက အကွက်မှာရှိတဲ့ အကောင်တွေကိုသတ်ဖို့ဖြစ်ဖြစ် သုံးလို့ရတယ်။ ဒီလိုနဲ့ အကွက်တွေပေါ်က လူမျိုးစုအကောင်တွေ ကုန်သွားလိမ့်မယ်။ အကွက် Actions တွေပြောရင်များနေမှာဆိုးလို့ မပြောတော့ဘူး။ ဒီလိုနဲ့ တစ်လှည့်စီ တစ် Round ပြီး တစ် Round ဆော့ကမယ်။ ‌‌ရွှေ့လို့ လုံး၀မရတော့တဲ့ Round မှာ ဂိမ်းပြီးပါတယ်။ ထုံးစံအတိုင်း အမှတ်တွေတွက်ပြီး အများဆုံးလူက နိုင်ပါတယ်။ အားသာချက်က တစ်ပွဲနဲ့တစ်ပွဲ လုံး၀တူဘူး။ အကွက်တွေကော လူမျိုးစု၅စုရဲ့ အကောင်တွေချပုံကော အမြဲပြောင်းနေတယ်။ ကစားသမားအလှည့် (Player Truns) က တစ် Round ပြီးရင် လေလံပုံစံနဲ့ အလှည့်ပြန်စီရမယ်။ အကွက်ကောင်းမြင်ထားလို့ Round ရဲ့ ၁ နေရာ အလှည့်လိုချင်ပေမယ့် ပြိုင်ဘက်ကလည်း မြင်ရင် လေလံပြိုင်တဲ့အချိန် ဘယ်လောက်သုံးရမှာလဲ ဆိုတာကို ထည့်သွင်းစဥ်စားဖို့လိုတယ်။ ပြိုင်ဘက်ကို ပိတ်လို့ရတယ်။ အကွက်တွေမြင်ဖို့နဲ့ အလှည့်ကြောင့်ပြောင်းသွားတဲ့ နောက်ဆက်တွဲတွေကို ကြိုတွက်နိုင်ရင်ပိုကောင်းတယ်။ ဦးနှောက်လေ့ကျင့်ခန်းလုပ်လို့ကောင်းတဲ့ #Strategy ဂိမ်းတစ်ခုပါ။ #FiveTribes #BoardGame #SPACE17 #Strategy
